Bensen was founded in 1981 in Vancouver, Canada by designer Niels Bendtsen. Bensen Italia was founded in 2010 in cooperation between Niels Bendtsen and Paolo Chiarot. For nearly four decades, Bensen products were designed and manufactured in Vancouver at their location on Railway Street. In 2018, Bensen moved production exclusively to Italy. Niels Bendtsen was immersed in design and craftsmanship all his life. From a young age he worked with his father to produce Scandinavian furniture and then continued his studies, briefing and designing his own pieces. One of his early designs, the Ribbon Chair (1975), is in the permanent collection at MoMA.Bendtsen was born in Denmark in 1943 and emigrated to Canada in 1951 and opened his first retail store Danet Interiors in 1963 (now Inform Interiors) . In 1981, Bendtsen founded his own Bensen production line to create high-quality pieces that are affordable and elegant. Bendtsen strives to design intelligent parts: a harmony of design, production and function that can adapt to its timeless appearance.
