Il no. 14 «poltrona è uno dei prodotti di maggior successo al mondo, prodotti in serie. Era il modello standard nella collezione di mobili in legno curvato di Thonet ed è considerata la tipica sedia da caffè viennese. Nel 1930, 50 milioni di sedie erano già state vendute. Una versione modificata del »n. 14« è ancora in produzione oggi. Usando la tecnica del legno curvato sviluppata da Michael Thonet, il legno massiccio viene modellato sottoposto alla pressione del vapore e modellato tridimensionalmente in stampi di ferro, questo offre un ampio margine di creatività nel design. Il nuovo sistema di confezionamento di Thonet fu anche rivoluzionario per la seconda metà del XVIII secolo. Le singole parti delle sedie sono state imballate in modo estremamente salvaspazio e quindi inviate alla loro destinazione finale, dove sono state avvitate prima insieme. I fratelli Thonet hanno unito i processi di produzione industriale e un approccio orientato al business con un'estetica unica, dando un contributo sostanziale al nostro attuale concetto di design industriale.
