La sedia Womb è considerata una delle icone del modernismo americano del dopoguerra. Progettata da Eero Saarinen nel 1946 e prodotta da Knoll International dal 1948 (originariamente come Modello n. 70), questa poltrona è il primo mobile di serie nella storia del design con un guscio di seduta integrato in plastica rinforzata con fibre. L'estesa scocca imbottita in schiuma, che ha due cuscini interni per un maggiore comfort, è supportata da un telaio in tubolare d'acciaio piegato. Saarinen ha sviluppato la sedia Womb in stretta collaborazione con un costruttore di barche. La sua intenzione dichiarata era quella di progettare una sedia che consentisse una varietà di posizioni di seduta e creasse una speciale sensazione di relax e comodità. Questo concetto di design centrale trova un'espressione vivida nel suo nome.
